rück auf die römische Stadt Iptuci, eine

Fundstätte. Sie bestätigt die Existenz menschlicher Siedlungen
seit der Jungsteinzeit bis ins 15. Jh.

Die glanzvollste Zeit erfuhr diese Gegend unter den
Römern, besonders im 1.-2. Jh. n. Chr., aber bereits die
Phönizier haben die in der Umgebung bei Cabeza de
Hortales gelegenen Salzminen abgebaut. Zu seinen wichtigs-
ten Bauten gehören die neoklassische Pfarrkirche Nuestra
Señora del Carmen und das ehemalige Kornlager Pósito de
Labradores, dessen ursprüngliche Struktur noch vollständig
erhalten ist. Zu den traditionellen Rezepten der hiesigen
Gastronomie gehören der Kichererbsen-Paprika- Eintopf,
die köstlichen torrijas (Brotgebäck mit Honig) und natürlich
der berühmte Most aus Pajarete.
